Raine’s Foundation School will cease to operate as a school as of the 31st August 2020.

A determination was made by the Official Schools Adjudicator (OSA) to approve proposals to discontinue Raine’s Foundation School. The determination is also now live on the OSA website. Therefore the school will cease to operate on the 31st August 2020.

The school has been in operation for over 300 Years and our thoughts and sympathies go out to all the different groups of people, past and present, who have contributed to the rich and wonderful history and tradition that is Raine’s.

Should you have any enquiries regarding the school after August 31st 2020, please contact school.organisation@towerhamlets.gov.uk in the first instance.

Romans 5.1-5

Peace and hope

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Most journeys start with a beginning - but you find yourself in the odd position of starting with an ending. As Raines’ 300 years ends, and your time in this school ends, a new journey for you begins. And as sad as this ending is, as unsatisfying as it is to not finish this year as you had hoped, this is an opportunity. All journeys are opportunities to learn and grow - to become more of who we are meant to be, of who God made us to be.

The Bible passage from Romans talks about suffering and for some of you this time will feel like grief. Now I am not suggesting you should ‘glory’ in this suffering, but you do now have a choice - a choice of which path on this new journey you will take. If you let it, the present suffering you’re experiencing can lead to a new found strength and an ability to push-on (that is perseverance). And perseverance will round you as a person, will build your personality, will form your character. And a strong character - knowing you can overcome disappointments and challenges - will enable you to be a person of hope. And hope, my friends, can change the world.

Your generation (not just from Raine’s) have the chance to build a better world. A world free from racism, prejudice, greed. A world where humanity chooses sustainable ways to live. But this will only happen if you have hope. The alternative of course is fear and hatred, and we see all around us what happens when people choose that path. So as you leave Raine’s may you find courage to take this opportunity; may you persevere and grow in strength of character and live as people of hope.

May you know God’s great love for you, and his Holy Spirit with you, as you embark on this new journey.

Peace and Hope to you all
